Biography
Paula Keith is a Texas-based artist who works exclusively in oil. She spent her early childhood in Ozarks, lived in most varied regions of Texas, and has traveled extensively throughout United States, where she saw and absorbed, with an artist's vision, natural beauty in all areas. Additional travel in Europe, Asia, and across our borders just added to her appreciation of what nature offers in every corner of world. Her paintings reflect her love of land, forests, and waters. Involved in art since childhood, in school, and studying with several professional artists, over the years, there has been intermittent involvement with galleries and juried shows, though she has no official degrees. Her personal technique combines imagination with reality to create colorful, sometimes whimsical, landscapes. She is currently retired and is happy to devote a part of every day to painting she loves, and hopes others will share and enjoy her vision.
Artist Statement
My art is expressed in oil, and inspired by a love and appreciation for the beauty of nature all around us: forests, lakes, and rivers, the ever-changing colors of the sky. Whether in a city or country, there is natural beauty and inspiration to be found and embraced. My technique involves a preliminary multi-color wash that results in the formation of shapes and images that, through my vision and interpretation, evolve into imaginative landscapes, cityscapes—whatever I "see"—and that is what I finish with brush and knife. So each painting begins as a mystery with no pre-determined outcome, and results in a picture from my imagination. My reason is a combination of compulsion and joy to paint the world I see, and hope others will enjoy it.
